What is Roller Derby?
Roller derby is a quad skating full-contact sport, known for its physicality. Blocking, hitting, and strategic manoeuvres are key elements of gameplay.

Basics of the game

A game is made up of multiple sections called "jams" which last up to two minutes. At each jam, each team fields four blockers and one jammer onto the track. The jammer wears the star on their helmet cover and is the designated scoring player. The blockers do not have a helmet cover, apart from one blocker who is the pivot who wears a stripe on their helmet cover.

At the start of a jam, the two teams of blockers are in a mixed formation called a "pack". The two jammers will line up behind the pack. When the start whistle blows, both jammers will attempt to push past the pack and be the first to come out the front legally, making the first jammer the "lead jammer". By being a lead jammer, they can call off the jam to end it earlier to stop the other team from gaining more points.

After their initial pass, both jammers can continue scoring by legally passing the opposing blockers when they continue to lap around the track. Every legal pass counts as one point.
At the end of the game, the team with the most points wins!
